A Birthday Breakfast

I've been super-inspired by Melissa's blog lately (since I found it!) including this lovely idea for a birthday breakfast tradition. Basically the birthday child has a special place set for him and the breakfast of his choice. I set out Dieter's new birthday crown and lit the candles on his birthday ring. Oh, was he ever cute wearing that crown!
I recently got a new cookbook, Deceptively Delicious, and this French Toast is the first recipe I've tried from it. The basic concept of the book is adding vegetable purees to foods that children like to increase the nutrition. This French toast is made with pumpkin puree (and whole wheat bread). It was delicious! I'm trying two more recipes from the book this afternoon.
And the first gift of the day is this wooden rainbow. I'm off to do more birthday cooking and baking while the baby sleeps and Dieter is at the park with his daddy. It promises to be a great day for our new 3-year-old!
