A Birthday Crown

I have been wanting to make birthday crowns for my little boys. Rainer's birthday was in October and I just couldn't pull it off--crafting time is so difficult to find during the regular school year. Now, with being on break, I'm completely delighted to have made this crown for Dieter who turns 3 (!) in a few days. I got lots of inspiration from both SouleMama and Uncommon Grace for these crowns. But I'm a girl who likes a template, so I traced around the tissue paper crowns from the Christmas crackers (resouceful, huh?).
The funnest part was adding the embroidery and applique to personalize it for Dieter. A tree symbolizes his love of the outdoors . . .
and I also added a truck because he is a total truck boy (honestly, it should be a backhoe because he adores construction vehicles, but I'm not that talented).
I've also made him this little felt ball. Today, hopefully, it's on to pants for him. I'm so enjoying this break! So far (since Christmas has been over) it's been lots of crafting and Gilmore Girls Season 7 and hanging out with my teens. Yea.

The crown is great! Perfect for a boy! You should make a cape to go with it!
Oh God I love Gilmore Girls!

Very cute Mary Beth - lovely that it's so personal. I won one recently in a giveaway but I'd love to make one too.

I'm so glad you're enjoying your break!

I'm catching up...
I'm amazed at all the delicious cookies you made in such a short amount of time! I especially like the CD container and the crown. Both of my kids' birthdays are coming up in the next few months, so maybe I will attempt a couple of those crowns as well.

My son's birthday is this coming week and I decided to make a banner, (currently older son is coloring the stenciled letters to staple to a red fringe ball contraption), and crown. In my google search, your site popped up with Salt and Chocolate, instantly grabbing my attention! Yummy combonations I agree!

Then I read your profile and said, "Yeah a new blog to start following", in my zeal for being creativity inspired online with positive female mothering types. I look forward to learning more about you and your point of view.

Oh by the way, yes I will be making the crown!
