November is Maple and Cranberries

I've been reading my Everyday Food magazines in a month-by-month format, which I am so liking. For November I get out all the November issues and get my inspiration from just those issues and so on. I'm noticing a lot of maple and cranberry recipes this month. I see that as a good thing.
Since this was a 3 day weekend, Sunday night I made a special dinner for Ken, including this appetizer, Baked Brie with Pecans. Yummo and a half, people. I tried the recipe because Ken really likes Brie and it looked kind of interesting; I had no idea how delightful the flavors would be together: Brie, pecans and maple. It was very easy too--I highly recommend trying it. The other thing we did that was very surprising Sunday night was to put the babies to bed before the dinner--they ate their meal while we had our Brie. So dinner itself was quiet and peaceful--a radical change around here, but I liked it.
And earlier this month I made these Cranberry-Pear Cake Bars (sorry no link--I seem to specialize in making the Martha Stewart recipes that aren't on the website, grr!) and froze them to have on hand for breakfasts. These too have been surprisingly good. We still are getting pears from the yard, so it was especially satisfying using our own fruit for these. These are sweet and tart and mildly spiced with cinnamon and great for a quick breakfast from the freezer.

Well, it's Tuesday morning and back to work today for a short week. And next week is a short week too! This is what I mean about the "holiday" season. I can get used to this.

My goodness, the first time I saw your blog I knew we were kindred spirits... I LOVE brie! So here are my two favorites: mix apricot preserves with a little oj and cinnamon, warm, and pour over baked brie. Also saute up sweet onions and cranberries and pour over baked brie round, sprinkle pine nuts.... both are divine. Your maple and cranberries sounds divine as well! Will have to try that one this holiday season!

I lovelovelove brie. My second daughter's name is Breana (rhymes with 'fauna') and all I ate while pregnant with her was brie - baked brie stuffed w/ sun-dried tomatoes was requested the most! I'll have to try your maple and nuts as well as Littlegreen's suggestions in her comments! Yum!

After discovering Everyday Food a few months ago, I bought a bunch of back issues off ebay. I was going to just go through the ones for a particular month in that month, but I like them so much I couldn't stop there. Everything I've made from them so far has been absolutely delicious!

My sister makes a baked brie every Christmas eve. I've already started looking forward to it!

I stumbled across your blog from someone else's blog and here I am. I saved you as my "favorites". Thanks for sharing your life with me. I love to cook, craft, bake, decorate, garden, etc and just love the photos of your food. I need to try that brie recipe. I love Martha's Everyday food magazine since it's simple, easy and good.
