In Our Efforts to Eat Locally and Seasonally

We live in an area where lots of people have gardens and fruit trees and it's not at all uncommon for someone to set up a little produce stand on their property. That's what this is, and it's just a few doors down from us. A fun walk with the children a way to surely be eating "locally" in the very strictest sense! Over the weekend we walked down and bought some apples and I found a nice looking zucchini.
Fast forward to tonight. Angry Chicken mentioned how she's using her old Everyday Food magazines for inspiration in her cooking and that she sticks to back issues of the month we are currently in. I so love that idea--sticking to one month of back issues at a time helps me stay so much better focused and I love the seasonality of the dishes. So anyway, one of my October issues has a recipe for Zucchini Spice Bread and it seemed the perfect use for my zucchini and to go with tonight's soup.
And it was yummy! Lots of zucchini and lots of spice for a very fallish bread, I thought. At least Ken and I liked it. The picky eaters were having none of it (but then Faith surprised me by having seconds on black bean soup. Go figure!).

That looks delicious. I try to buy produce at my local market each week where I setup a craft booth.
