How to Make Dried Apple Slices

Here's a fun fall activity to do with your toddler--making dried apple slices. Dieter and I enjoyed doing this and it took almost no planning and no time.
First I sliced the apples very thinly with the mandoline.
Dieter arranged them on the cookie sheet lined with parchment,
. . . then sprinkled the slices with a cinnamon-sugar mixture. Into the oven they go for two hours at 200 degrees (I actually turned it down to "warm" about midway through because they seemed to be browning too fast).
Crispy apple slices! Yum! They were still kind of chewy when I took them out, but they crisped up right away upon cooling. These will be great for lunches, especially for Faith who is picky in general but loves these apple rings (and they're much cheaper than buying the dehydrated apples I've bought at Costco before--good, but a little pricey). I only have one gripe: two sheets of apple slices (two apples) condense down to a very small batch. They're so easy, though, I'm sure we'll be making them again soon.

yum... we have a dehydrator, so we use that but I still totally agree that they're so good and a batch makes few enough that the yumminess and the quantity do not balance, they always get eaten too quickly. Last month we did peaches and of course those went super fast!!

Yummy, I'm going to make these for sure! Also, a nice way to add a bit of warmth to the kitchen as it turns chilly. :-)

Hi! I found you from the Crafty Crow & am so excited about trying this! I don't have a dehydrator, and didn't think I could do this in my oven. Question- does the cinnamon/sugar do something in the dehydrating process or could I leave that out?

Hi Shellyfish. Go ahead and try it. It should work; the color may be just a little less appealing.

I love your blog... stumbled on it quite by accident as I Googled how to make dried apple slices... Went apple picking and now have $45 worth of apples and 15 lbs worth... hoping I can dry some!

Will be back again!
