Christmas Crafting Update

I am very excited to be getting an early start to the Christmas crafting season (at least it's early for me!) with this fun project: patchwork towels. I love these towels and I hope they will make great gifts. They're pretty, heartfelt (because I love making them) and practical. Who can't use a clean new kitchen towel?
Saturday I spent their entire naptime cutting the strips. I have a bazillion 3" wide strips now, so that's done.
Then Sunday I started making the towels. My goal was to make 10-12, but again, with naptime constraints, I was pretty thrilled to get these seven done. It is so much fun to put together the fabric combinations! I could do that all day. Then, after making the strip I cut it to size, turn everything under, and sew down. Easy peasy and highly satisfying.
Stacked, and ready for the Christmas gift stockpile.
After I get a bunch more of these done, then it's on to zippered pouches, another very practical gift, I hope. But before any of that, I have a few things in mind for baby Rainer, in time for his first birthday. Wish me luck, because as the schoolyear is wearing on, I'm getting tireder and tireder. (Sleep is the key, I know--just have to force myself to get off the computer. Now. Okay, bye).

These are so great! Seven in a nap it mighty impressive. I am enjoying your blog so much. And gnome pants rock by the way.

So great!

Where do you get your towels? I love making appliqued towels similar to this but I have a hard time finding plain white high quality towels.

very cool! you are so inspiring. can you tell me a little about what materials a newbie would need to start a project like this? what sewing machine do you like?

Thank you everybody, for the tea towel love!

Jessi--I bought the white towels at K-Mart in the Martha Stewart Everyday section.

Mom Go Green--I love my Bernina. It's over 10 years old and was the most basic model they offered even then. It's not computerized at all, but it runs great and gets the job done. As far as other supplies? Just buy fabrics that you love--they are so gratifying to work with and so worth paying a bit more.
