Baby Rhymes

Just for fun, here are some of the rhymes and songs I like to do with the babies. These are great for waiting in line, travel, or any time the baby needs a fun distraction. They are no fail! (And even Dieter still loves them.)

Here is Baby's Ball (comes from this book which, by the way, is a great source for more rhymes).
Here is baby's ball (make your hands into a circle) Big and soft and round Here is baby's hammer (pound your two fists together) Listen to it pound Here is baby's trumpet (pretend to blow into a horn) Toot toot toot toot toot And here is baby's favorite game (cover your face) It is called, Peek A Boo (take your hands away)

Ride on Mama's Horsey (comes from my good friend Sylvia, who always did this with her babies).
Bounce the baby on your knee and say:
Ride on, ride on, ride on mama's horsey Ride on, ride on, ride on mama's horsey We can go to San Jose, We can go to Monterey, We can go to L.A.!! (lean baby back and speak excitedly)
Ride on Mama's horsey!!!

Adapt it to suit your state. For instance, when Faith was a baby we lived in Kansas, and for her I would say, "We can go to Wichita, We can go to Topeka, We can got to Oskaloosa!!" It's very fun to make up lists of three towns that end in the same sound.

And finally, this is very silly, but I made up a little song when Dieter was calling Ken "Dada" literally weeks and weeks before he started calling me Mama.

I have to say, they love that one too. Bounce the baby a little on the clappy parts.

Well, it's feeling fallish around here. Not in the afternoons, so much, but it is definitely cool enough now to cover Rainer with his quilt when he sleeps and everyone needs a sweater for the early morning trek to school and work. And tomorrow is Friday! I'm planning a weekend of crafting and maybe another pumpkin recipe. Happy weekend everyone.
