More Energy

Okay, so as I've alluded to in previous posts, I need more energy for this whole back to school, back to work, mom of young children, still nursing and getting up at night thing. Honestly, just being back at work and having a schedule boosts my energy. But I need more. It's one thing to get up at 5:30 and rush around getting ready and getting kids ready and being peppy at work, but it's quite another to sustain that energy throughout the late afternoon, the dinner hour, the walk, the bath, and the making of the lunches.

Glamour has a perfectly timed article in the current issue on just this topic and I thought it was interesting that the number one suggestion is to get more sleep. I think a lot of us really do need to be reminded of that. I'd love to get more sleep, but after the boys are in bed I still have more work to do, and after that is my only time to update my blog and read things online that I like to read. Still, it might be worth it to be a little stricter with myself about going to bed at a decent hour. And I'm thinking, once a week, wouldn't it be great to just flat-out go to bed at 8:30? Radical thought, but I'm sure it would help.

The other suggestions were
  • eat often (because our bodies need fuel). I'm very good at this one.
  • exercise. I'm actually doing pretty well sticking with a nightly walk, and I do think it is helping.
  • cut out what is not absolutely necessary. That's no problem for me--my life is already full doing just the essentials.
  • avoid multitasking (because it causes stress). Food for thought, but I have to multitask at my job due to constant interruptions. It's just the nature of the job.
  • quit worrying. They suggest getting your thoughts out into the open so worrisome issues don't drag you down.
And they also include a list of energizing snacks. I love healthy food suggestions. These include veggies and hummus, peanut butter on whole grain crackers, and pita chips with bean dip and sliced avocado. Love that last one.

Personally, I'm going to try to go to bed earlier and strive to eat more fruits and vegetables. What are your favorite energy boosting tips?

MB,
This is going to sound absolutely crazy, but this past week I have been getting up at 4:30 a.m. and I have more energy than ever! Here is why I think it is working. 1) I go to bed at exactly 10:00 p.m. I don't allow myself to go to bed a minute later. This prevents the bedtime hour "creep" where all of a sudden it's 1:15 a.m. 2) Getting up at 4:30 a.m. allows me to think. I can do whatever I need to do before 5:30 when the manure hits the ventilator, as they say. Make lunches, exercise, blog, have a slice of toast and put the coffee on. It is so much more relaxing for me to get up then rather than get up at 5:45 and rush around trying to get everyone, including myself, out of the house by 6:30. I really don't know why it's working, but I'm not asking any questions. We'll see how long it lasts - maybe when it's 20 degrees out mid-December it won't be so appealing. P.S. Sorry - I seem to have taken over your blog. : ) Have a great day and thanks for the additional suggestions. I'm going to try the bean dip.
