Mad Back-to-School Preparations

This is it people; everyone is back to school this week. Ken started today, all the teenagers start on Tuesday, and I'm back on Friday. The babies are back in daycare this week too. I'm madly trying to prepare and get organized and psych myself up. Today I'm focusing on getting the menus and shopping lists ready. It's a big chore but saves me a huge amount of time every week. Last March I made four weeks of menus to get me started, and shopping lists to go with them, then ended up recycling those same four weeks over and over. Boring, yeah, but with our lives the way they are now (full time work for us both, with a baby and a toddler at home and 3 teens in and out) it's what I have to do to survive. Today I'm gathering up all my materials from last spring and also making four more weeks of menus so we don't go crazy eating the same dinners over and over again. I'm going to compile it all in its own separate notebook this time because I found that rifling through a big stack of papers on Saturday morning to find that week's shopping list to be its own stress.

In other Back-to-School preparations:
  • Faith and I already went shopping for our new clothes last week; it was so fun, and having new work clothes really helps psych me up for the coming year
  • I need to go to school a day or two this week to open my office and make sure I'm ready for the first day
  • We have to tie up some loose ends with appointments; go to the dentist, that sort of thing
  • big laundry, as always
  • get the breast pump up and running
  • gather my school supplies
  • and I have one more sewing project in the works that I would really like to finish
What are your favorite back to school tips and tricks?

I love the shopping for school supplies but with Anna in high school it really boils down to paper, pens, and a few notebooks. No more fun stuff like crayons, glue, colored pencils or tissue. My best tip - a hot bath and a good night's sleep at least one of the weekend days before hand. I couldn't pull it off before school started here (Thursday) but I did manage it over the weekend. And a discussion over a smoothy about scheduling. Still haven't managed that this year.
